As a technical service provider, SPIE manages the maintenance of a wide range of buildings in the Netherlands through its Building Solutions division: from offices and healthcare institutions to schools and other complex real estate environments. Reliable exchange of corrective notifications between clients and SPIE is crucial in this. To future-proof that exchange, SPIE chose to work with Datarotonde. Robin de Boer, IT project manager at SPIE, explains what that collaboration looks like.<\/p>\n\n
SPIE already worked with connections between client systems and its own maintenance platform, but increasingly ran into limitations. Notifications could only be processed if clients actively delivered them, while more and more clients expected SPIE to retrieve notifications from their systems itself.<\/p>\n\n
“Technically, we simply couldn’t do that,” says De Boer.<\/p>\n\n
In addition, responsibility for monitoring and managing those connections rested entirely with SPIE itself. That was time-consuming, specialised work that needed further professionalising. This created a need for a solution that was not only technically reliable and solid, but also flexible enough to meet a wide variety of client requirements.<\/p>\n\n
With Datarotonde, SPIE found a partner fully specialised in digital message exchange within the maintenance sector. “That allows us to set up connections with clients much more easily and effectively,” says De Boer.<\/p>\n\n
An important advantage is that SPIE now works entirely according to the DICO standard, the format widely used in the maintenance sector for exchanging notifications, which is increasingly required by clients. This means SPIE immediately meets information security requirements and can connect with clients more easily.<\/p>\n\n
The solution also offers more possibilities from a technical perspective: Datarotonde supports both push and pull, automatically sending notifications (push) or retrieving them from client systems itself (pull). SPIE was previously unable to do this. “That means we can now meet almost any client request.”<\/p>\n\n
According to De Boer, the biggest gain lies not only in the technology, but especially in the speed at which new connections can now be realised, since there’s now a standard solution for it. Where nearly every new connection used to require custom work, the process is now far more efficient.<\/p>\n\n
That also makes it more attractive to offer connections to smaller clients: business cases that weren’t viable before are suddenly interesting now.<\/p>\n\n
SPIE also feels the benefits on an operational level. Thanks to Datarotonde’s monitoring, disruptions are detected faster, allowing SPIE to proactively inform clients before they notice a problem themselves. That gives the organisation more confidence towards its clients. \n \nDe Boer: “In principle, we can now always say yes to a client’s request. That used to be different.”<\/p>\n\n

Just as important as the technology is the collaboration itself. “I genuinely see Datarotonde as a partnership, rather than a client-supplier relationship,” says De Boer.<\/p>\n\n
During the migration of existing connections to the new DICO environment, Datarotonde actively thought along about how to transition clients as smoothly as possible. De Boer says he’s impressed by the knowledge and skill of the Datarotonde team: “They think proactively and really bring expertise to the table.”<\/p>\n\n
This helps SPIE achieve its strategic goal: “We want to work more efficiently and smartly.
